Temeke Hospital in Dar es Salaam has received a donation of health
equipment worth 381.7m/- from the US-based organisation called Helping
Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD).
Speaking at the handover ceremony in the city , HHRD
Country Representative Madaila Dalidali, said the donation was meant to
help patients and at the same time improve the performance of staff.
The donation included beds, a surgery machine, laboratory equipment and various types of medicine.
Dalidali said: “We believe that most peoples’ life will be saved
through this donation. Further, we hope that it will increase the safety
of women and children. In fact, our main focus is to ensure that women
and children receive better health services than at present,” he said.
Madaila explained that the donation was provided to the Temeke
Hospital as a result of the institute’s good cooperation with the
Muzdalifah Islamic Charity Organisation (MICO) that assisted in its
importation.
In response, MICO Deputy Secretary Abdul Mlawa said they decided to
donate to Temeke Hospital after realising that it was facing a shortage
of health equipment.
The Acting Temeke District Medical Officer (DMO), Mohamed Khalfan,
noted that the donation was made at the right time when the hospital
was facing a shortage of health equipment.
He said: “We will use all the equipment we have received in an
appropriate manner as intended. We call upon you to continue supporting
us because the equipment we have is not enough compared to the service
we provide.”
